David Mills
David M. Mills has 25 years of experience in the senior housing field,
beginning his career at Marriott International. David joined AgeWell Living in
2011 as the Executive Director of La Posada, a continuing care retirement
community (CCRC) with 290 units (IL, AL, MC, SNF), located in Palm Beach
Gardens, Florida. In his current role of Partner, President and COO for
AgeWell Living, David oversees all aspects of operations in the company’s
portfolio of communities.
Prior to joining AgeWell, David served as Vice President of Operations at Bell Senior Living (BSL) where he directed operations for all the Skilled Nursing beds in the southern region. The value of BSL’s portfolio at the time that David joined the company was $189M. He was responsible for all communications to the investor groups, lenders, and for reporting on HUD changes. He also directed all future capital improvement plans. BSL sold the portfolio of 26 communities 5 years later for $304M. Prior to his tenure with BSL, David worked with Sunrise Senior Living after they bought Marriott Senior Living’s portfolio. David was recruited to oversee all levels of care for two large communities on the gulf coast of Florida.
Prior to Sunrise, David served as Regional Director of Operations for Five Star Quality Care (FSQC) where he was responsible for nine communities, six of which were CCRCs with 520 beds of licensed skilled nursing. David’s team improved from being the worst region in FSQC when he joined the company to being the second-best region in under a year and increased the asset values by over 30%. During this time, David also identified acquisitions for FSQC which resulted in adding four communities to the company’s portfolio.
David began his career at Marriott International and worked in all the growing divisions of the company for 19 years: Marriott Management Services, Marriott Hotels and Resorts, and Marriott Senior Living. He was recruited by Marriott Senior Living in 1995 as Regional Food & Beverage Director and Corporate Chef for over 65 communities. In this capacity, he directed Food and Beverage operations in Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care and Skilled Nursing communities. In his next assignment, David accepted the position of Executive Director for The Woodlands in Houston, Texas, a community of 439 residents with a 120-bed skilled nursing unit and a joint commission accredited home health company.
